Come Prepared

What to Have Ready

Since we meet virtually, here's what makes for a great online session:

Origami Paper

Have some square paper handy — any size, any color. Standard origami paper from a craft store works great. In a pinch, cut any paper into a square.

A Good Camera Angle

Position your camera so others can see your hands while you fold. A phone propped at an angle or a laptop tilted down works well.

A Model to Share

If you have a favorite model or something you've been working on, bring it! Teaching others is one of the best parts of our meetings.

Curiosity

No experience necessary. Bring an open mind and a willingness to try. Every expert folder started exactly where you are.

Diagrams or Books

If you have origami books or printed diagrams you'd like to share or teach from, have them nearby — you can hold them up to the camera.

Patience

Folding takes focus. We move at a relaxed pace and nobody is left behind. Take your time — the crease will come.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do I need any experience to attend?

Not at all. We welcome complete beginners — in fact some of our most enthusiastic members had never folded anything before their first meeting. Our philosophy is mutual teaching: everyone has something to learn and something to share, regardless of skill level.

  • Is there a membership fee or cost to attend?

Meetings are completely free to attend. There's no obligation to join anything or pay anything. We do have a mailing list you can sign up for to stay informed about upcoming meetings and events.

  • How do I join the Zoom meeting?

Sign up for our mailing list and we'll send you the Zoom link before each meeting. You can also contact Perla directly at perlamyers@gmail.com to get the link.

  • What kind of origami do you do at meetings?

Everything from simple traditional models like cranes and boxes to complex modular origami and tessellations. Each meeting typically features a mix — someone might teach a beginner model while another member demonstrates something more advanced. There's always something for every level.

  • What paper should I use?

Standard origami paper (kami) is perfect for beginners and available at most craft stores or online. As you advance you might explore washi, duo paper, or specialty folding papers — but to start, any square piece of paper works just fine.

Still have a question? We'd love to hear from you.
