Where It All Started
The Greater San Diego Origami Group was founded in the early 1990s by two remarkable women whose passion for paper folding sparked a community that has flourished ever since.
Florence Temko was a prolific author who wrote dozens of books on origami and paper crafts, helping introduce the art to countless beginners. Her gift was making origami feel welcoming, joyful, and accessible to anyone willing to pick up a square of paper.
V'Ann Cornelius brought an artist's eye and a curator's vision. She co-curated Origami Masterworks, one of the first major museum-based origami exhibitions in the world, at Mingei International Museum in Balboa Park.
Together, they created a space where folders of all levels could gather, learn, and be inspired. That spirit endures today.

Our Mission
To share the joy of paper folding, nurture its growth, bring people together, and encourage community among paper folders of all ages and experience levels. We welcome absolute beginners and experienced artists alike. What unites us isn't skill level — it's a shared wonder at what a single sheet of paper can become.
Our Philosophy
Origami enthusiasts of all ages and folding experiences are invited to participate in the mutual teaching of new and favorite models. Participants also share examples of their recent works — because teaching is itself a form of learning, and every folder has something to offer.

Perla Myers is a professor in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of San Diego, where her research sits at the intersection of mathematics, education, and origami. With 22 publications and a deep commitment to making mathematics joyful and accessible, she has spent her career showing that folding paper and doing math are not so different.
Perla coordinates the Greater San Diego Origami Group's folding meetings, keeping the community alive and welcoming to folders of all ages and experience levels. She was a close collaborator of Arnold Tubis, and recently delivered pieces from his collection to the Museo del Origami, ensuring his legacy is preserved.
